Dementia Friends is an organisation that aims to raise awareness and understanding about dementia. I wanted to explore this and create an advertising campaign demonstrating the various ways people can help. Through Illustration, Graphic Design and Animation, this project brings dementia friends to life and represents how friends can connect.


Idea

Friends will show affection through different forms of physical touch, I used that to visually represent friendship and be the bridge between each of the different illustrations in the animation.

Execution

A set of illustrations visualising the different ways you can help out as a dementia friend. The animation is an advertisement that showcases what Dementia Friends do and how they help people with dementia and their communities. This campaign is aimed at a younger audience who could have grandparents with dementia, which is why we are trying to reach out to them and gain a younger demographic to learn about dementia friends. I wanted to put the prints in frames to represent how you might go over to your grandparents and see the old-style photo frames to connect with the audience. This campaign comprises an Advertisement, a Set of Advertising Prints, and Merchandise. The illustrations can be used on a variety of different media types to advertise the campaign across all platforms.

“Try to be patient whenever you can”

This represents a flower bed of forget-me-not flowers, which is the Alzheimer's Association and Dementia Friends logo. The idea was that people are patient, letting flowers grow, and you have to be patient when dealing with people who are living with dementia.

“Volunteering in your community”

The community is a big part of the organisation; some people might not know anyone with dementia. Their community could still need help. I figured a good way to represent this would be a gift basket with different ways to volunteer and help.

“Helping out in fundraisers”

Dementia Friends can help out with different fundraisers and raise money for different events. I swapped the money for a forget-me-not flower to keep it all connected and work with the idea.

“Hosting Information sessions”

As a dementia friend, you can help out and host different information sessions in person or online to spread awareness and make sure people are getting the correct information.
